FAQ

How do I get started?

Simply text, email, or call and we can set up your first appointment. You can also submit the form on the Contact Us page.

What towns do you come to?

I service Evergreen and Conifer and the surrounding areas. That includes Idaho Springs, Indian Hills, Georgetown, Morrison, and nearby mountain towns.

Do you come to my house, or do I come to you?

In most cases I come to your home. Sometimes it makes more sense to meet at a park or another central spot.

How long is a session?

Sessions are anywhere from 50 to 90 minutes.

What’s the difference between private lessons and partial homeschool?

Private lessons are one-on-one, and you, the owner, are part of every session. Partial homeschool is me working with your dog, just the two of us. I fill you in on progress along the way, and we do one final lesson together so you know exactly what your dog learned.

Do I have to be home for a homeschool program?

No. As long as I have access to your home and your dog, you don’t need to be there.

Do you offer board and train?

I don’t currently offer board and train. Homeschool is the closest thing: same idea, except your dog stays home overnight between sessions instead of staying with me.

Do you offer virtual training if I don’t live in the mountains?

Yes. Virtual sessions are scheduled on Google Meet.

Are you running group classes right now?

No group classes are scheduled as of August 2026. Anything upcoming will be posted on the Group Classes page.

How much do packages cost?

Packages vary. Check each one on the Services page for the current price.

How old does my puppy need to be?

Around ten weeks old.

Does the Advanced Puppy package require Perfect Puppy first?

Yes. Advanced Puppy is available after you finish the Perfect Puppy package.

What does socialization mean?

Socialization is exposing your dog to new sights, sounds, textures, and people, and teaching them to stay calm in those situations while keeping their focus on you.

Is the e-collar included, and what does my dog need first?

The e-collar is included only in the e-collar for recall private package. Your dog needs some obedience first, either with me or somewhere else. We can talk through whether they can jump straight into that package.

My dog blows me off on the trail. Can you help with recall?

Yes.

Can you help with leash reactivity or aggression?

Leash reactivity is a common problem I help owners with. Aggression is a catch-all for a lot of different behaviors. Let’s talk specifically about what you’re seeing and what we can do.

Can we work toward a Canine Good Citizen title?

Yes. I am a certified Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

What does “results that last” actually mean?

It means my goal is to give you the skills and tools to keep training when I’m not there. If you have those, the results last for the life of the dog.

How much homework is there between sessions?

I wouldn’t call it homework. It’s the consistent work of living with your dog every day.

What shots does my dog need?

For training with me, I only require rabies. For a group class, your dog needs the full puppy vaccine series and to be current on rabies and distemper. Bordetella (kennel cough) is highly recommended too.

What if I need to cancel, or my package expires?

Cancel more than 24 hours out and there is no fee. Inside 24 hours there is a $75 fee, or that amount comes out of package credit. I’ll let you know before a package expires so we can extend it or finish the remaining sessions in time.

What paperwork do I need?

Three forms on the New Client Paperwork page: a service agreement you sign, a health form for vaccines and so on, and a behavior form with basic information about your dog.

Who are you, and why not a big Denver kennel?

I am an individual trainer and I have been in this work for 15 years. I opened Moving Mountains Dog Training in 2016 so I could work on my own and help as many people as I can. I focus on mountain communities and families who need help with their dogs here.
